Acute Traumatic Atlas Fracture with Medullary Injury

Abstract

|
Lower brainstem injury can be occured in Jefferson fracture due to vertical force of odontoid process into cervicomedullary junction and shows high mortality. A case is reported of a 24year-old man with Atlas fracture Atlas fracture as the
presenting
feature of an acute medullary compression, apnea and guadriplegia. Patient could walk after emergency resuscitation and stabilization procedure. The clinical feature, radiological findings, and surgical treatment of Jefferson fracture combined
with
medullary injury are discussed.
